Europe
The continent of Europe is one of the most compelling travel destinations in the entire world. Where hunting was once the sport of royalty and the privileged, pursuing big game in Europe is at its own level of sophistication. It is here where our hunting heritage is most advanced. Due to Europe’s approach in intense game management and selective breeding, the most impressive trophy quality of animals is available here.

Austria is one of the most popular destinations for hunters traveling to Europe. The Lower Alps provide a fantastic backdrop to hunting what’s known as common European big game species, although the Alpine Ibex is the prize trophy here. Located only 50 miles south of Vienna in the Gutsverwaltung Miesenbach hunting district, hunters are sure to be submerged in one of the richest and longest-standing hunting cultures dating back over 1,000 years. Vienna is recognized as one of Europe’s most important cultural centers, so as with most European hunting destinations, this is a fantastic option to bring along the family.

The hunting here is primarily confined to private estates, however a few unique free-range opportunities are present for a few species, most notably the English Red Deer, Chinese Water Deer, and Reeves Muntjac. The various imported species from China and India provide unique opportunities to hunt the species that are no longer possible otherwise! Accommodations and cuisine are always of the highest class, and vary from area to area. And of course, England is a great addition to add to a Scottish Red Deer adventure, considering the ease of logistics.

The country of Scotland is among the most popular hunting destinations in Europe, and certainly among the islands of the United Kingdom, for many reasons. Incredible scenery, love for the outdoors and tradition all combine to make this part of the United Kingdom a very rewarding and special experience for any international hunter. The Scottish traditional hunting method of “stalking” (as it’s known locally) is still used to this day to hunt free-ranging (and estate) big game animals such as the Scottish Red Deer (most notably), Roe Deer, Fallow Deer, Sika Deer, and Feral Goat. Scotland has an incredible hunting history that is only truly appreciated onced experienced. A true highland Red Deer hunt is a memorable experience that is steeped in tradition. A hunter is guided by a stalker who spots game with a pull-out telescope (spy glass), followed by considerable walking and possible long, muddy crawls across treeless moors to point-blank range. The desired trophy stag is known as a “royal,” which has matching brows, bez, trez tines, and three points in the crown. Royal stags are a challenge to find in Scotland due to the poor native forage/nutrition, although the traditional method of hunting them combined with the beautiful landscape heavily outweighs the inches on paper.
Scotland is also a fantastic destination to combine hunting with some sightseeing such as golf, scotch distilleries, castle touring, etc.

Spain is truly a special destination for the traveling hunter seeking a variety of species and in distinctly different areas. Each huntable species provides a different hunting experience in various types of terrain, while all very conducive logistically as opposed to other areas of the world. Most importantly, it’s one of the best hunting destinations on earth to bring along a significant other, as there are so many amazing non-hunting experiences that are also offered.
In total, there are 13 different big game species you can hunt in Spain. Most notably, the different beautiful subspecies of Spanish Ibex. If you’re seeking your Capra World Slam (GSCO), look no further in Spain.
